Agile Product Management:

Agile is the modern and predominant methology being used in organizations to develop products.  When embraced successfully, it provides a huge competitive advantage for companies across many industries.  Most companies however, fail to recognize how their organizations need to change, adapt, and support their agile initiatives or risk limiting the potential benefits in adapting agile.

Agile Product Management is an opportunity for students to understand the essential elements, behaviors, frameworks, and mindsets involved for companies who are and are developing and agile operating profile.  Each class provides students with hands individual and team orientated exercises to understand what it is like to plan, develop, sustain products with an agile perspective.  At the end of the course, students will be able to engage in discussions on agile subject matters that would impress potential employers and apply this knowledge to other Paul College classes such as Capstone.

Social Impact Start-ups (Incubator):

This course introduces social entrepreneurship as a foundation for start-ups seeking social and environmental impact. The class is taught from a practitioner’s point of view designed to be both collaborative and interactive. Students will be placed in teams to engage in the development of a social value enterprise by first identifying a current social issue and then proposing a targeted solution.  We begin with concept design, explore ideas and market opportunities. We follow with feasibility assessment and concept validation. Teams will create a business model with its mission to successfully drive societal change for the benefit of its stakeholders.  The course concludes with an investor pitch deck presentation necessary for seed funding (pre-launch).

Business Model Innovation

Business Model Innovation applies the principles from the foundational business curriculum to a concept known as the business model canvas. The canvas is a fast, concise, and portable framework made up of nine basic building blocks on a single page that illustrate the logic flow of how an enterprise makes money. Canvases are a blueprint for strategy that include hypotheses which are then systematically tested against key customer and market data. As changes are made the canvas format makes it easy to update and share. Contrast this to a lengthy business plan document that might take weeks or months to prepare, the canvas approach allows for quick iteration and visual thinking of the essentials for new and existing businesses to succeed. Students interested in entrepreneurship and product management will draw the most value from this course. Once the canvas framework is learned and understood through the example of some widely known businesses, students will develop a canvas for a business concept of their own and present it by the end of the course.
