Introduction to key actors, theories, and concepts in the fields of organizational theory and behavior.

This course will focus on human resources in public sector practices. The history and changing role of public sector human resource strategies will be explored by students to develop an understanding of how individuals from diverse backgrounds, interests, and skill sets can work together and contribute towards an organization's mission. Students will have the opportunity to build capacity to influence people both inside and outside of an organization, optimize the structure and culture of their organization, make effective decisions, resolve conflicts, and drive change for higher organizational performance. Further, students will be given the opportunity to develop and enhance their supervisory and leadership skills so they can manage and lead high-performing, successful organizations.

Basic introductory reading under faculty direction on topics of philosophical importance. Books offered for tutorial reading may be in any area the instructor chooses or on independent study basis.

This is a survey course introducing project management as a profession and an academic field of study. It provides the foundation for more advanced project management courses. It is a prerequisite to other courses in the degree program unless permission is granted. The student is introduced to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK Guide), as well as other international standards. Students will examine key tools and methodologies in use to manage large, complex projects and explore how these tools and techniques can be used to assess the project's overall status, its variance from the project plan and evaluate alternative recovery scenarios. Students will be introduced to the roles of project and program managers in today's enterprise and the tradeoffs they make among triple constraints of scope, time and cost.
