Additional Course Details:

Grammatical knowledge is critical to developing academic linguistic proficiency in English Language Learners.  Some teachers feel comfortable incorporating grammar into lessons on a daily basis; others feel hesitant to do so, citing a lack of knowledge or preparation, grammar not being a priority, or lack of passion for the subject.

This class will address these issues and more, exploring multiple perspectives related to English grammar: its historical development; its subsystems, and how it is learned and taught.  Emphasis will be placed on teaching grammar in context and content, integrating language objectives into content lesson plans and developing ideas for building grammatical proficiency by creating activities that satisfy the various dimensions of grammar: linguistic form, meaning, and pragmatic use.
