This macro social work course utilizes foundation year curriculum content to provide an advanced examination of social work practice in larger systems. Students develop knowledge, values, and skills in areas of community analysis, community organization, community capital, empowerment and the use of power, sustainable communities, evaluation of community interventions. Strategies of cultivation, mobilization and sustaining resources that empower underserved constituent groups are studied. Course content is rooted in both historical and current contexts in providing administrative and technological tools to undertake change efforts across organizational and community systems. Students must have successfully completed the first advanced practice course.
Section Comments: Co-requisite of SW 983.01 Students in this course will have a bi-weekly mandatory synchronous component that will happen on a Monday or a Wednesday evening between 7-9 EST for a 1 hour block. This can be changed at the instructor's discretion with notice to students. Please email the instructor for the schedule if needed.
