Remote characterization of seafloor properties using acoustic (echo sounders, sub-bottom profilers, side-scan, multi-beam and interferometric sonars) and optical (video and laser linescanner) methods. This course covers the basic manufacturing processes used to convert raw materials into finished goods. Various manufacturing methods including both traditional and computer controlled covered include: machining, forming, casting, welding, 3D printing. The complex relationship between design and manufacturability is investigated and emphasized. The lab portion of this course will demonstrate the use of various machining processes which are capable in the UNHM Machine Shop Lab.
