Intellectual Property Strategies in the Tech Industry

 

Silicon Valley is a unique environmentAs the epi-center for the high tech sector for over 50 years, Silicon Valley companies continue to dominate the tech landscape and our society as a whole. 

 

As a technology trailblazer, legal issues often lag the rate at which technology is being implemented and usedThis is particularly true for intellectual property. 

 

This two-credit course provides an overview of a number of entities in the high tech sector and how they use intellectual propertyThese entities find themselves at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and unique circumstance brought on by new business models disrupting old ones, the global pandemic, new forms of intellectual property licensing and risk mitigation, and confluence of technology and the law.  

 

Each lecture will bring the IP leader from each company, sharing their experiences, challenges and issues of first impressionIn addition to how each business uses copyrights, patents and trademarks, the course will also explore the challenges and nuances with privacy, antitrust, trade secrets and contracts.  

 

Companies expected to participate include Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, Samsung, Qualcomm, Dolby, Uber, Open AI, Lenovo, Tik-Tok, Intel, Fortress Investments, RPX, and Unified Patents.
