After taking this course, students are able to navigate successfully in wild terrain using pacing, map, compass, GPS; can conduct a simple planar survey including cartography; and can sample a forest in order to characterize the abundance and quality of forest resources. Moreover, students know the fundamental principles of navigation, surveying, and field sampling.
