This course introduces students to Educational Studies: the ways that social, cultural, and political factors influence education outside of conventional school settings. We examine the relationship between education and social change in local and global contexts. Guiding questions include: How does schooling produce certain kinds of citizens? How do grassroots movements use education to resist colonial/colonizing agendas? What role does education play in promoting democracy, and social and economic equality?
