Additional Course Details: 

Students will learn to design science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curricula with a focus on the field of biofabrication. Course content includes writing lesson plans to align with an overall curriculum and the national standards for education, creating and delivering engaging presentations to a variety of youth from grades K-12, and engaging with the public. This seminar includes contact hours with K-12 students through the STEM Mobile Biofabrication Integrated Lab Experience (STEM-MoBILE); as part of earned credit hours, students are expected to attend events where they will share information about the field of biofabrication with the public and give presentations at schools in New Hampshire as events are scheduled.

Additional Course Details: 

Why is the human brain so difficult to understand? When scientists uncover basic science principles of the neuron, how does that scale up to system-wide understanding or to clinical treatments? The instruments that help us investigate the function of an individual neuron are very different from the instruments needed to parse subjective human experience. This notion of scale, in both time and space, will be integral to exploring the obstacles of neuroscience research and to surveying the neurobiotech tools that help answer these difficult questions.

Additional Course Details: 

This course focuses on the development of bioinks for the automated production of tissue constructs. Advanced techniques such as recombinant synthesis, organic synthesis, protein characterization, polysaccharide characterization, organic chemical characterization, rheology, electron microscopy, 3D bioprinting, biomanufacturing, biocompatibility testing, and quality control will be covered both in lecture and lab. Special focus will be directed towards formulating bioinks using proteins, polysaccharides, and synthesis polymers, with the ultimate goal being the production of stem cell or cancer organoids.

This course meets the advanced majors course requirement for Biotechnology majors as a Lab Techniques category class.
