Students will learn about private and public health insurance, key issues facing healthcare providers, and how public policy affects the healthcare system. The course material is presented in a series of recorded video lectures supplemented by four live Zoom sessions. This course examines the evidence developed through the lens of outcomes research relative to clinical care and public/population health initiatives. It explores the development of study design, developing a workable research question and associated proposed study methods. The course explores frequently used study designs, techniques for evaluating/selecting health outcomes measures, and analytical approaches appropriate to conducting health outcomes research. Students will construct an independent research protocol, which will be developed in increments as course evolves.

For thousands of years, humans have created communities that align with certain perceived value systems. From these value systems, great civilizations have been cultivated, developed, and brought into conflict with other cultures. This course examines the rise of civilizations throughout the world, tracing the history of human societies from their beginnings through 1000 C.E. After surveying the prehistoric period and early civilization, the course focuses on the religious, political, and cultural characteristics of key civilizations from around the world. Emphasis will be placed on patterns of civilization, human conflict and interaction, and the development of human thought and expression.
