Title: Advanced Topics in the Scientific Study of Groups and Bias

Description: This course will discuss social identities, social groups, and social bias, with a primary focus on gender- and race/ethnicity-based bias. We will read original theory/review pieces and empirical articles on cognitive processes—e.g., attitudes, beliefs, category representation—that can cause and influence social bias. We will also discuss recent controversies (e.g., “what is implicit bias?”) as well as best practices for study design and data analysis when conducting research on social inequality and bias (e.g., "what is the best way to measure participant gender/sex?", "how can I protect vulnerable populations?") .
