Topic: Combinatorics
Course description: Enumerative combinatorics is a classical mathematical subject related to the theory of counting. In this course we will develop the theory of enumerative combinatorics and consider a wide range of problems and applications involving it. We will review basic counting principles (sum and product rules, combinations and permutations) and then discuss topics such as binomial and multinomial coefficients, the principle of inclusion and exclusion, generating functions, recurrence relations, special sequences (such as Catalan numbers), partitions, and pigeonhole principle.
