Talent Lifecycle: Hire to Rehire

We are currently in what media has dubbed “The Great Resignation.” With over 50% of employees already having changed jobs in the past 2 years, what can employers do to hold on to their top talent in the race for employees? Talent Lifecyle Management has become more important than ever, but most managers lack the knowledge and the skills to know how to select, retain and develop top talent. This course will focus on all of this and more. It all starts with hiring the right people, but how do you know? This course will look at company culture, job competencies and interviewing.

Once a candidate has been hired, onboarding and training become the focus, and first impressions of a new employee can define their time and their engagement with the company. Talent Lifecyle Management helps to define a process for developing, engaging, and retaining a company’s talent and can give companies who are successful at this a leading edge in business.

This class will focus on all the major touchpoints in the talent lifecycle from hire to retire and will help equip students who will be future supervisors, managers, project leads and business owners to attract, retain and develop top talent to propel their business forward. Using company information and case studies from textbooks, journals, websites, and podcasts, students will develop an understanding of how to select, retain and develop their teams.

Business of Storytelling

Successful businesses don't just explain what their products and services do. They create a story to show why customers need them. This course will outline the fundamental elements of business storytelling and the important role it plays in branding, public relations, marketing, and securing financing. It will examine how word choice, images and even colors create a brand's story, and how public speaking techniques can elevate a product pitch into a memorable story.

Students will learn the basic building blocks of traditional storytelling and how these elements are used to create connections with customers. To put these concepts into practice, students will create a brand's story and then tell it through social media posts, in an advertising campaign, and an oral presentation aimed at potential investors. Students will also write and share a personal business story based on their own experiences designed to tell in job interviews or when launching their own business.
