The course uses historical and literary sources in conjunction with the city of Athens itself and its
archaeological remains to explore the history of a particular theme, cultural practice or institution in ancient Greek civilization. The topics changes with different instructors but always takes a fundamentally historical orientation to the material and the city, even if interdisciplinary approaches are incorporated into the coursework. CLAS 511 is offered only as part of a study abroad program.
