How have various writers addressed the institution of marriage and long-term commitment, and the role finances play in partner choice? We'll start with the novels of Jane Austen and move to contemporary "chick lit", the latest incarnation of the romantic quest narrative, in order to understand this genre's continuing popularity. Assignments include blogs, online chats, research essays, and creative writing opportunities.
