What is music? Why does music move us? What music moves you? How does music work? What are the basic elements of music and how do we process them? How do humans use music?  How have humans used music in the past? How do we use music? Can music communicate ideas? How? What kinds of ideas? Is music political?  These are just some of the big questions we'll be exploring together in Honors Introduction to Music.  This class approaches music from its broadest definition and there will be room in the syllabus to accommodate interests and ideas that students suggest during the first week of class.  Music is more than the Western Classical canon & therefore some of the "masterpieces" we will explore together will include works and practices that may not necessarily fit into the tradition of written concert performance music.  Our range will be quite broad and could include any and all of what you see linked below.
