In this class, we will learn about the everyday lives of women in Latin America from the first moment of contact between the Aztec and Spanish to the present day. Exploring the lives, writing, and art of rich and poor women alike, we will delve into Latin America's rich multicultural and diverse social fabric. After a brief survey of geography and a historical overview, the course will follow the main chronology of Latin American events and developments. In the process we will study themes such as sex roles, gender and family, labor and production, inequality, sexuality, the effect of modernization and globalization, and women's political mobilization and artistic expression.
