Additional Course Details:

This seminar course examines the psychology of aging, exploring how to maximize the gains (and minimize the losses) associated with aging normally and with disease.

In this course, you’ll study topics like malnutrition, falls, changes in physical and cognitive abilities, loneliness and more — working with classmates and professionals in the field to explore solutions to real-world topics that older adults and their families face whether living on their own or in residential communities.

Students will learn about the latest, relevant issues from frequent guest speakers (on and off campus), and will gain hands-on experience through 10 community service visits at Birch Hill Continuing Care Retirement Community in Manchester. The community service requirement is conducted outside of class time, so other course expectations are reduced to balance out the on-site commitment.

This course can be used to fulfill the Capstone requirement for senior Psychology majors. If you are interested in learning more or registering, please contact alison.paglia@unh.edu.
