Methods, applications, and implications of genomics--the analysis of whole genomes. Microbial, plant and animal genomics are addressed, as well as medical, ethical and legal implications. The lab provides exposure and experience on a range of bioinformatics approaches--the computer applications used in genome analysis. Prereq: GEN 604. Lab. Writing intensive. Only offered in Manchester.

Additional Course Details: 

This lecture course runs in an asynchronous format. There are no online meetings, rather, modules are completed with assignments due online weekly.  You will need a reliable internet connection for this course and the ability to successfully navigate various online websites and animations. A laptop or desktop computer is needed to successfully complete the asynchronous work in this class. A tablet device or phone is insufficient to complete the work.  There is a co-requisite lab that meets online synchronously weekly using Zoom  (audio and video capability required).

The required text for this course is Introduction to Genomics by Arthur M. Lesk, 3rd Edition, ISBN 9780198754831. There are questions from the text assigned in this course. Students are encouraged to search for used copies and may opt to rent a copy for a lower cost. eBook versions are also acceptable to use. All efforts are made to limit textbook costs for students while providing access to the best learning resources. Students will want access to their own copy of the text as it is used heavily in the course.
