INSTALLATION AND SITE-SPECIFIC SCULPTURE
The terms installation and site-specific have come to define a wide range of definitions and practices. This course introduces the process of
making sculptures that exist in a specific place. Students will work individually and collaboratively both in and out of the classroom. Projects
will necessitate using a wide range of materials, from traditional to new and mixed media. Specific techniques will be taught in class including
mold-making, rope-making and transferring 2D images onto objects. Projects will be informed by the history of installation sculpture from its
origins to its current practice. Making artwork outside of the classroom can present unforeseen challenges. Projects will necessitate working
with people in the public, from those who own or regulate the installation spaces to the audience who view the art work. Students will gain
experience working with these different groups of people, writing proposals for projects, and problem-solving.
