The Hispanic World Today
Description and Structure of the Course: Through case studies drawn from recent social and political conflicts in the Hispanic world, students will engage in advanced practice in reading, speaking, and writing in Spanish. We will study the following five topics: 1) memory and human rights in post-dictatorship Chile, 2) Spanish responses to global terrorism, 3) hurricane response and relief in Puerto Rico, 4) justice and reconciliation in the Colombian peace process, and 5) violence and security at the U.S.-Mexico border.
