Additional Course Details: 

This course will cover commonly used phrases, sometime known as “slang”, or “idioms”, often found in informal interaction in ASL.  These phrases are often little known or understood by second language users of ASL.  To help retain the itemized phrases in memory,  they will be used in a natural approach in simulated conversational classroom activities, in various itemized daily communicative situation, such as in a clubroom, planning meeting, party, and the like.  Research involving “vlogs” (video blogs) made by Deaf Community members will be assigned.  Video assessments will be conducted to appraise student’s mastery attained. Prerequisite: ASL 531 American Sign Language III

These presentations are to use high/academic register, appropriate for a large academic audience, demonstrating sensitive awareness of visual acuity and its impact on signing production.
