Company Culture & Competitive Differentiation

Learn about the power of competitive differentiation through the lens of EBSCO Information Services’ (EIS) rise from a small start-up (founded by Tim Collins when he was attending UNH) to the leading online research service for libraries worldwide.

You’ll be challenged to make recommendations to address challenges faced by EIS as it moved from the academic market into the medical market. You’ll learn how EIS’s focus on its mission, business principles and culture was instrumental to its transformation into a business with $2B+ in sales and over 3,000 employees. You’ll develop principles and culture elements that you see as important to a company that you might start or work for in the future.

Classes will include Leadership Training modules that were designed to help EIS, and its employees, realize their full potential as well as Business Insights gained from Tim’s 40 years of experience in business leadership.

B-side of the Music Industry

B-side of the Music Industry pulls back the curtain and allows you to experience the often-unseen business side of Music. You’ll gain a better understanding of the roles, costs, planning, timelines, as well as the work and struggles that go into this type of product launch. Student teams start by understanding specific roles within the industry and how they come together to shape a launch—bringing their artist/project to life for public consumption.

Teams will work with an independent artist/band through an initial investor proposal and examine the transition of that artist from Visual to Show performance. In the next phase, teams take that into creating an "Album" release/product launch proposal. Students are challenged to plan out costs, timelines, and strategy for elements of the launch such as studio production, marketing/publicity, booking/touring, and talent management of the artist/band.

Industry Professional Bio: Mike Flatt

His career experience with indie record labels spans venue management, festival stage management, promotions, merchandising, artist management, and artist consulting.
