Course Description:
In this course, we will study and discuss six celebrated trials:  the trial of Socrates; the Salem witchcraft trials; the trial of King Louis XVI; the trials of Oscar Wilde; the Scopes “Monkey” trial; and the Nuremberg trials.  Each of these trials raises questions about some fundamental aspect of justice itself, and about the purpose and sources of law as we in the West have come to understand them.
