Current research methods used to perform whale research will be presented. Whale behavior has always fascinated people and in this course we will investigate why whales sing, breach, spyhop, lobtail, bubble feed, cooperatively feed, echolocate, migrate and other cool things they do. Did you know that whales used to live on land and walk on four legs? That DNA evidence demonstrates they are closely related to hippos? We will look back in time at whale evolution and distribution too. All the organisms that live in the global ocean ecosystem from clams, to plankton, to seals will also be studied.
