Spring 2026 Course Details
This writing course will explore a variety of subgenres, including travel, nature, and profile writing, the personal essay, and more experimental styles of flash nonfiction. Using the literary techniques often associated with fiction, students will learn to tell true stories—both from their own lives and from the wider world. Research, reporting, observational, and descriptive skills will all come into play. Extensive reading of contemporary authors (including Annie Dillard, Leslie Jamison, Ross Gay, Robert Macfarlane, and others) to study the sources and techniques used in creative nonfiction. Regular papers, conferences, and workshops.
