Europe in Flames! Reaction & Revolt in Nineteenth-Century Europe

This course examines the various European responses to the tremendous social, economic, and cultural upheavals unleashed by the French and Industrial Revolutions in the nineteenth century. Particular attention will be paid to to industrialization, nationalism, socialism, liberalism, conservatism, feminism, and imperialism and to the ways in which these ideas and movements both emerged out of the particular context of the nineteenth century and remain relevant to the present day.
