Roman Architectural Design

Columns, Arches, and Vaults are the principal components of Roman architecture. Together with new building materials such as concrete architects deployed them with the aim to mold space which eventually would result in the complex designs of the high empire. In this course we will explore how to design and deploy these components by learning how to model them in 3 dimensions in dedicated workshops using SketchUp, a 3d modeling software. In addition to learning about ancient buildings and architectural principles, your task will be to recreate and/or design a Roman building as your main research assignment.
