In this studio course students learn how to design and build furniture and non-functional objects using a variety of techniques, hand tools, and machines. Emphasis is on challenging and exploring creativity to examine preconceived ideas about what furniture forms should look like while developing a solid understanding of various techniques. Prereq: ARTS 525 Introductory Woodworking. Special fee.

Additional Course Details: 

The terms installation and site-specific have come to define a wide range of definitions and practices. This course focuses on creating art that physically and conceptually interacts with the space it occupies. Students will work individually and collaboratively both inside the classroom and around campus. Projects will necessitate using a wide range of materials, from traditional to new and mixed media. Specific techniques will be taught, including mold-making, inflatable sculptures, and working with metal and/or wood.
