Fundamentals of Substance Abuse

This is a writing-intensive course. Mandatory pre-requisite: PSYC-531. This class provides an opportunity to better understand the complexity of behavioral neuroscience through the exploration of processes underlying substance use. This class will survey basic and more advanced topics in neurobiology, psychological and neurobiological theories of addiction, pharmacological effects of drug use and abuse, and current methods in preclinical research of substance use. Consideration of topics such as reinforcement, classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and learning related to substance use
