This course teaches journalism students to think like business people so they can compete in the exploding world of online publishing. Students work on ways to monetize good journalism practices by studying opportunities available and applying what they learn to a publishing project. Those who prefer print will find the course valuable as they learn to balance business objectives with quality journalism. Prereq: ENGL 621 with a B or better and written permission of the instructor. Writing intensive.

Fall 2021 Special Topic & Course Details: Podcasting

In this course students will learn what it takes to develop a successful podcast. Students will learn how to use your own voice and improve critical thinking skills to develop story ideas. Students will experiment with audience engagement methods and learn about the business of podcasting as well. Utilizing the journalism skills learned in previous courses students will conduct interviews, create compelling audio stories and produce a podcast. Prerequisites include ENG 621 and ENG 631 plus permission by the instructor.
