In this course, students will begin to understand how societies define or "construct" the categories of race and ethnicity, and the consequences of these two concepts on history and modern relations. Using sociological theory and scientific research we will engage complex issues head-on with all of our available scholarly tools. By the end of the course, students should be able to identify and apply various sociological concepts and theories pertaining to race and ethnicity.
