Amber Petty Arts 651 2014
Course Description: Since the birth of photography, practitioners have been manipulating the photographic image to explore and to perhaps question the observational truth of the medium. Students will investigate the long history of photographic manipulation while creating new strategies in visual storytelling. Students will use a variety of digital assets to composite images into a narrative, students will focus on; Photoshop, Lightroom, studio lighting, and special optical techniques. Each student will create a portfolio of unique photographs to fit four given themes. The course will also consider the role of composite imagery in art, editorial and advertising, illuminating the functions of photo-based illustrations in contemporary society.
Pre-requisite: Arts 551 or Arts 552 not required for this workshop class, but students must have experience with a DSLR camera. Students entering the course must have a digital camera with aperture and shutter priority and exposure compensation.
