Additional Course Details:

Introduction to stem cells and how biomaterials are utilized in their applications involving biotechnology, bioengineering, and biomedical sciences. Background knowledge, techniques, and applications covered include aseptic technique, cell culture, cell adhesion, molecular responses, biomaterials engineering, bioprinting, sterilization of materials, biocompatibility, biodegradation, and bioactivity analyses. Lectures will focus on the current literature while the lab portion involves inquiry-based projects that will investigate how biomaterials and molecules modulate stem cell proliferation and differentiation. Preferred preparation to include organic chemistry and/or biochemistry.
