Additional Course Details:

This one-semester course will provide a foundation in nuclear physics. I plan to cover chapters 1-7, 17, and parts of 16 and 18 in Povh, as well as an overview on nuclear processes in reactors, medicine, weapons, and solar physics. If time allows, we will also touch upon current frontiers of nuclear physics research.

Topics Covered

  • Properties of Nuclei
  • Nuclear Stability and Decay
  • The Strong Nuclear Force
  • Nuclear Reactors, Weapons, and Solar Fusion
  • Scattering Processes
  • Magnetic Moments, and Spin Structure
  • Nuclear Physics in Medicine
