Introduces human-environment relations as a central focus of geography, spanning social and environmental sciences. Considers mapping, natural resource use, commons and markets, hazards, political ecology, and land use change. Case studies link core concepts with examples from local to international scales.

In fall 2020, due to uncertainties caused by the public health situation, the modality of this course is still pending. Most likely, the course will be made available remotely, with in-person attendance not required. Synchronous remote attendance may be required, however. While efforts are underway to provide optional in-person class meetings, this is not guaranteed. Students will need reliable access to a computer with a webcam and sufficient internet to stream video.
