Additional Course Details:

Feature writers have the best job in journalism. They explore the world around them through reporting and observation, sometimes participation, and they exercise all sorts of storytelling muscles. In this course, you will study the masters and learn to spin the facts you collect into lively, thorough, compelling feature stories that entertain as well as educate. You will learn how to interview more effectively and completely, studying different tactics and techniques to elicit thoughtful and surprising answers. You will experiment with different kinds of leads and structures.  You will write lively scenes and turn talking heads into 3-D humans. You will learn to wake up readers, make them slurp their coffee and gasp, or at least want to read to the last line. Prereq: English 621.
