SP20 Special Topic: Language & the Brain In this course we will explore how language is organized and processed in the brain. We will begin with an in-depth look at neural anatomy and physiology, as well as neural function. Related to these topics will be examining current neuroimaging techniques. Having established a basic understanding of these things, we will move on to explore both normal and abnormal language function (i.e. the aphasias) in the brain. In order to establish a more complete understanding, all (or most) areas of the grammar will be looked at with regards to neural function. This will include discussions of the neural instantiation of phonetics and phonology, word understanding and sentence comprehension.
