Additional Course Details:
This course will provide the opportunity to examine one of the most important cultural manifestations of modern Spain and will allow students to apply narrative film criticism to the most outstanding works of Spanish cinema. Students should emerge from this course with the appropriate training to connect film with literary tendencies such as surrealism, social realism or “neo-realism,” “tremendismo,” etc., as well as with the different phases of contemporary Spanish history (the Republic, the Civil War, the Franco decades, and the transition to democracy).
