Additional Course Details: 

The Peer Educator Development course will prepare students to become peer educators on a college or university campus.  This course will prepare students to be effective leaders on campus, as well as within the community, through theoretical and practical application of best practices focused on listening and referral skills, intervention skills, programming and presentation skills, cultural competency, and leadership techniques.  Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Certified Peer Educator (CPE) exam to become nationally certified Peer Educators. 

The course focuses on the following topics: understanding the power, roles and characteristics of quality peer educators, being an effective listener as a peer educator, responding to crisis situations, bystander intervention, intrapersonal applications of identity as a peer educator, group development and event planning.

This course integrates personal growth, with problem solving, critical and creative thinking. The Peer Educator Development course may not be repeated.
